What’s happening this week?
Man, the wagon is rolling this week. We got big time earnings from FedEx to Nike, the Fed interest rate decision, Nvidia’s GPU tech conference, and a whole lot more…
Monday - Science Applications earnings and the Nvidia GTC conference with a keynote by CEO Jensen Huang on the future of GPU’s.
Tuesday - HealthEquity and Precigen earning as well as housing starts and building permits. Nothing crazy.
Wednesday - FOMC Interest rate decision, Micron Technology, General Mills, and Chewy company earnings. Investors will be watching the fed.
Thursday - Accenture, Nike, FedEx, and Lululemon corporate earnings. Nike and Lulu will show how strong the consumer is.
Friday - Government spending bill deadline to avoid shutdown.
Everyone is horny for Nvidia, so the GTC conference will be important to watch.
Any of these sound interesting?Of these topics, which would YOU like to see the most 🧐 |
Now You Know
Thacker Pass ➡ General Motors
Fellas,
A couple days ago the United States Department of Energy handed a $2.26 billion dollar check to Lithium Americas for the mine at Thacker Pass.
We know the US needs more lithium like a little kid needs an Ipad - this is all a part of the effort (more on that some other time).
I also realized (hmm 🤔) that General Motors got their corporate paws on Lithium Americas as they have pledged $650 million to the company for the development of the Thacker Pass Mine. The investment will be broken up into two tranches; the first being $320 million in exchange for 15 million shares (almost 10% of the company) and the second being $330 million for an equity amount I am not sure of.
That means GM is paying $21.34 a share while the current share price is $6.47 on the NYSE (as of close on 3/15/2024).
Hmm.
According to Lithium Americas, “GM has exclusive access to 100% of the lithium production from Phase 1 for up to 15 years” - not bad GM, well done. If finalized, Thacker Pass will be able to churn out enough lithium for 800,000 EV batteries annually (source).
The land has been heavily resisted by Native American tribes, but has recently been given the green light to proceed.
Lithium Americas stock is relatively unchanged in the past year but has started climbing in recent weeks.
I will keep ya posted.
Thank you
